About the Team
Skidmore Polo Club is a student-run club chartered by the Student Government Association of Skidmore College.
Students pay dues at a rate determined by the club. Dues help to defray costs of caring for horses and facilities required for the sport.
Coaches are volunteers.
Student Club leaders are elected before each season by other students on the team.
On Skidmore's campus, we can be found at the Club Fair in the fall semester. We also host open-rides throughout the season to encourage students to participate and join.
Intercollegiate Men's and Women's Teams
Skidmore Polo men and women compete in the USPA Intercollegiate Northeastern Circuit. Varsity practices two nights per week during the season and hosts or travels for games on many weekends, playing other colleges such as Yale, Cornell, Harvard, UMass, UConn, and UVA, as well as interscholastic teams such as Work to Ride and Gardnertown and local community teams too. The home arena is at Bloomfield Farm.
JV Polo Program
Skidmore Polo welcomes riders without polo experience to join the JV program. JVs meet two nights per week during the season and learn the basics of Riding for Polo, Mallet Skills, and Game Rules and Strategy and end the season playing with Varsity players and coaches in the annual Intraclub Tournament as a culmination of the experience.
Beginner Polo Program
Skidmore Polo is inclusive. Students who have never ridden are welcome to join in the fun. The beginner program is taught by knowledgeable varsity players and is great fun for all! Beginners ride one day per week.
